Women’s Retreat

April 13 - April 14

Event Navigation

In Proverbs 31:25, God describes a woman that is clothed in His strength and dignity, laughing at the days to come, without fear or trepidation of the future.

Daily dependence on the Lord is the path to the abundant life Jesus promises us, but how do we stay clothed in God’s strength and dignity when our rebellious hearts so easily take us in another direction?

How can we laugh at the future when today’s circumstances seem insurmountable? What do we do when our “abundant” lives leave us feeling drained, frustrated or discouraged? Where do we find this life of joy and peace, and what does this really look like as sojourners on this earth?

Tackle questions like these with us while enjoying an environment of relationship, rest, and rejuvenation at the 2018 Stonebrook Women’s Retreat at Hidden Acres Camp. Come expecting to find God’s renewal for today so you can be reassured for what He has planned for your tomorrows!

Joyce Bannantine – Joyce, and her husband, John, have been members of Stonebrook for 19 years and Youth Group leaders for the past 8 years.  They will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this August and have 4 wonderful children.  This spring their two oldest kids will be getting married within 3 weeks of each other!  In Joyce’s “former” life she earned a B.S. in Elementary Education, a M.S. in Higher Education and worked as an academic adviser at ISU for 4 years and 9 months (another “God Moment;” ask her about it!).  God is always revealing Himself through all stages of our lives.  We are called to share these moments to encourage each other and to, ultimately, glorify God!

Wendy Bovenmyer – Wendy Bovenmyer grew up in Spencer, Iowa and attended Iowa State in 1999. She attended Stonebrook during her college years and served as a leader in The Rock. She co-led ministry teams in Linden and in Willow dorms. In 2003, Wendy graduated with a Finance degree, married Dan Bovenmyer, and moved to Iowa City to join a church plant. The Mars Hill congregation has since merged congregations with Grace Community Church, where Dan co-pastors. She spends her time caring for her children (Jake (13), Evie (10), Annie (7), and Bella (5)), homeschooling her youngest, studying God’s Word, enjoying anything Jane Austen, running, and playing puzzle/word games on her phone.
