Psalm 84:4

Psalm 84:4

Psalm 84:4 – “Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praises.”

Recently, I have had the lyrics of “10,000 Reasons” stuck in my mind. I found myself humming the verses during the day and contemplating them at sleepless nights.

“Bless the Lord
Bless the Lord
Oh my soul, oh my soul Worship His holy name Sing like never before Oh my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name”

As I was singing this song, my soul was often encouraged and spirit lifted up. Psalm 84:4 describes how happy are God’s people who dwell in God’s temple, worshiping Him with songs. It is beyond our imagination what it will be like when we finally stand in the court of the LORD in heaven.

But this life and pilgrimage of faith can be very challenging, as we can see in the picture painted in the later part of the Psalm.

“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.” (Psalm 84:5-7)

There is a weeping valley in our journey, yet God can turn it to blessings and happiness. Most important of all, our faith will grow stronger as we go through one trial after another if we set our heart on Him, the source of our strength. Let us preach to our own souls, “Be strong in the LORD,” and continue to sing his unfailing love. Indeed, there are thousands upon thousands of reasons to praise Him.

“You’re rich in love
And You’re slow to anger
Your name is great And Your heart is kind For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
10,000 Reasons for my heart to find”
