Our God Watches over us

Our God Watches over us

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7

“Excuse me, are you the gal who loaned me a quarter outside the store earlier?” I looked up from the dairy section of the Aldi grocery store to see a lady about my age talking to me. After repeating her question, I reassured her that no, I wasn’t that kind person who had helped her earlier outside. As she was about to turn, she noticed that I was missing an earring and exclaimed, “Oh, you’re missing an earring. I found it outside and turned it in up front. Ask the cashier about it when you check out.”

How strange and yet, how like God, I thought to myself! This friendly gal was in need of a quarter to “rent” her cart; was loaned one from another person; in the process, noticed my earring lying outside and picked it up; took the effort to go the extra mile to turn my earring in to the cashiers up front; searched the store for the “good Samaritan” who had loaned her the quarter so as to repay her; found me in that search; randomly noticed that my earring was missing; and tipped me off so that I could find my earring up front waiting for me!

Such a small thing and yet such a huge thing! Ladies, God watches us each and every day and cares about the smallest details of our lives, yes, even down to our missing earrings! Even when we are unaware of our needs, He is on top of them all, orchestrating events and causing all things to work together for the good of those He loves!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve lost my fair share of earrings in the past, (and experienced plenty of much bigger trials than that) but today, I think God wanted to reassure me that nothing escapes his notice as he watches over me, and that He is more than excited and capable to care and provide for me in ways that smack of his love and attention!

“His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me!”
