Encouragement in the Psalms

Encouragement in the Psalms

Psalm 28

“Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” – Psalm 28:6-7

A few weeks ago, I felt like my mind was caught in a fog of irrational thinking and anxious thoughts. I knew I needed clarity to cut through it all, but was unable to find that on my own. I spent time praying to God for clear thinking and also started reading through the Psalms. And He definitely answered my prayers; I was able to think clearly again and praise Him for his mercy on me.

I once heard a pastor teach that the Proverbs help you relate to other people and the Psalms focus on your relationship with God. I find myself going to the Psalms often for comfort, reassurance, clarity, or help with expressing how I am feeling. I thought I would share a few of my favorites- maybe they will encourage you today as well!

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8

“Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.” – Psalm 116:7

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” – Psalm 105:4

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” – Psalm 138:8

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” – Psalm 73:26
