Being Made Perfect

Being Made Perfect

Hebrews 10

“For by a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” – Hebrews 10:14

I came across this verse again recently, and every time I do I find myself breathing a sigh of relief. It is such a reassuring statement for me. I see two promises in this verse that change my life completely.

First of all, God considers me perfect. Not because of what I do, have done, or will do, but because of the offering He made when He died on the cross. And it says for all time, that status is never going to change for me! When I am able to grasp this truth, it allows me to feel so loved and valued by God and at peace with Him.

Then it also says that I am being sanctified. Being made holy or being made more like Jesus would be other ways to say it. So not only has He declared me perfect for my eternal destination, but He has also committed to helping me through this life. Philippians 1:6 says: “He who began a good work in you will bring to completion.” The promise is that He will not get frustrated with me and walk away, but instead will persevere and lovingly change me to become more like Him. That commitment is so comforting to me!
