Whatever God Ordains

I was asked to write a blog last month, but I was not in a good place in my soul, feeling I had nothing to write about. Today, I’m a little further along on the journey with more strength and meditations on my heart, so here it is. My health continues to be my challenge of faith, and it probably will be until I die or until I am the recipient of a miracle. One thing that seemed to be…

1 John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and Him is no darkness at all. (ESV)

2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (ESV)

Colossians 1:16

For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through Him and for Him. (ESV)

Luke 1:68-69

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant, David. (ESV)

Come Let Us Adore Him

Advent is my favorite time of year. I love the building anticipation of celebrating the coming of our Lord Jesus through daily traditions and devotionals. Our daily traditions are many. One is in the form of an Advent calendar comprised of doors. Behind each door is a Bible passage, a hymn to sing, a children’s book to read, and an activity to do that helps us better understand the purpose for Jesus’ first coming. We also do a Latin Advent calendar,…

Mary – The Right Kind of Attitude

This Christmas season is like most for me. I feel rushed and out of time and energy to do all that I want to do. Visions of being “ready”, whatever that is, dance in my head. As it is, the Christmas tree is in a corner with nothing on it and no gifts anywhere. I have a week… a week…oy! Are you feeling the pressure too? I stop because when I think of Mary and her willingness to serve God…

Luke 1:41-42

And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!’” (ESV)

Luke 1:31-33

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end. (ESV)

Ephesians 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. (ESV)

John 20:30-31

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (ESV)

John 20:30-31

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name. (ESV)

Yielding My Will to a Big God

“As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.” – Ecclesiastes 11:5 Recently, in 5th and 6th grade Sunday school, we were studying about how God works and moves in order that we can see Him in action. The stories that were used to highlight this were: the account of Gideon and the army of 300…

John 19:36-37

For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of His bones will be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They will look on Him whom they have pierced.” (ESV)

Get-Away!

“The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17 I’m excited! Really excited! Next week my hubby of forty-three and a half years is taking me away to a country retreat! We will pull back from our regular duties and commitments and take a couple of days to slow down, get refreshed, and…

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (ESV)

The Good Shepherd

In John 10 we learn that Jesus is the good shepherd who proclaims His sheep are eternally secure in God the Father’s hand.  By human standards, a shepherd that attempts to protect his sheep from most threats is labeled as a “good” shepherd. But Christ, in obedience to God’s standards, showed Himself to be the ultimate good shepherd by laying down His life for His sheep. Just as a flock of sheep will know and follow their shepherd’s voice, we…

John 17:23

I in them and You in Me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them even as You loved Me. (ESV)

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but take heart; I have overcome the world. (ESV)

2 Corinthians 12:9

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9 Many of us love this verse and the promises that God’s power and grace will work through our weakness. The truth is that most of us do not like the state of being weak. Apostle Paul, who pleaded…

John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. (ESV)

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (ESV)
